I've found that unscented hand sanitizer works well for keeping things clean enough to prevent infection. It's mostly useful because it dries quickly so you can have a clean toy to use right when you want to use it. It's also something that no one will think twice about if they see it in your room. Just be careful that you do let it dry *completely* before using it (I rushed once when I first started and holy shit does that burn).
As for the toys themselves, I use a paintbrush set. Most standard sets have a few small, medium, and large brushes and the handles work very well for sounding (just be careful to get ones with rounded ends otherwise you could tear something and it hurts like a bitch). And again, it's not exactly a suspicious object.
Drinking cranberry juice is a good prep because it helps prevent the bacteria that causes urinary tract infections from 'sticking' and causing problems, flushing it straight out of your system instead. It also changes the pH of your urine, making it more acidic and essentially makes your urine like an internal sanitizer.
Urine itself is sterile so if you happen to cut yourself or tear something, you don't need to worry about whether pissing later will cause infection; as long as the toy was cleaned and you're careful for a few weeks afterward, small injuries should heal fine without getting infected.
