Agreed, while one or two would stand there dumbfounded, someone would have some other reaction... like getting a phone to call the cops or an ambulance. Also while the girl's muffled screams may have been overpowered by the chainsaw, the magician would notice the flailing arms, plus most performers have a 'safe signal' in case a trick does fuck up.
Also, who was the audience? if it was a stage performance, they would of dropped the curtain or tried to keep the audience from freaking out. If it was a practice session, which is possible since the performers would use video recordings to see how they look, why was the saw on? If it was for TV, the recording staff would of gone and stopped the trick.
Plus why would the magician add a section to hide the assistant's head from him while showing it to the audience? It's a waste of building supplies, hides emergency signals and subtle movements, and adds nothing to the trick.
