k, i'm gonna have lots of free time soon, and i'm able to translate this. what picture editing software is best to keep the best image quality possible and overlay text with the translations? i dont want to fuck this up using paint or whatever...lol

Yeah. The GIMP is fantastic. One-hundred percent free, open source image manipulation program. You can choose what quality to save your jpegs at (unlike Paint, which chooses for you, and it's shitty). Just don't save it as a gif, due to unnecessary quality loss on static images.

Touhou Project is a series of doujin games (the vast majority are SHMUPs) made by one guy, ZUN. He does all the work (art, character design, coding, and music), and usually releases one game a year (most at Summer Comiket)*. Despite being a doujin series, the series has garnered a huge following, with over a thousand tables selling Touhou fan doujins, music, and games at this past Comiket. Essentially, good games + fantastic music + (almost) all-female cast (well over 100 characters at this point, only four of which are male) = success.

A few name errors (not your fault, Touhous have weird Kanji in thier names). "Murasaki" is actually read "Yukari," and I'd wager Yama no Kami is a reference to Kanako (the Goddess of Wind and Rain, who's shrine is at the top of a mountain). For the Sanae set, the three names you're going to need to know are Sanae (green text), Kanako (blue), and Suwako (yellow).
